This could be a new sport for most of our community, so we are keeping it simple and asking you to learn a bit more about the game and give us some insights on who the dominate teams are and if there has been any shift in who is winning the championships. For this month’s challenge we are looking at the NCAA Division 1 (Division 1 is the highest level of collegiate sports in the US) men’s & women’s championship game & the win/loss and goals for each D1 team for a 5-year period. There is even a men’s professional lacrosse league.
Participation in high school Lacrosse increased by 127% for boys & 157% for girls from the 2002/2003 to the 2018/2019 academic year. The sport has evolved dramatically since then.
In the 1860s, a group of French Jesuit missionaries were believed to be the first Europeans to see the game. Games were major events and lasted several days. Lacrosse originated as a game played by Native American communities in the Eastern half of North America.
